About This Role

Pursuit Christian Church is looking for a Worship Minister to lead our congregation in worship and help shape a healthy, growing worship ministry. This position is intentionally flexible: we want to fit the job, the hours, and the responsibilities to the person God brings us, rather than forcing every applicant into one fixed role..

In practice, that means the role can look different depending on what you bring and what you're looking for. If you simply want to lead music and play or sing on Sundays, there's a lane for that at around 10 hours a week. If you're looking for more than that, like with helping shape broader ministry, giving direction to production/tech, or stepping into associate-level pastoral responsibilities, there’s an opportunity and role for that too, scaling up to about 30 or 35 hours a week. We'll shape the final job description and have a conversation together with the right candidate.

How the Hours Work

• Core Worship Leader (~10–15 hrs/week): Sunday-focused. Leading sung worship, playing/singing, planning setlists, and rehearsing with the worship team.
• Expanded Worship Ministry (~15–22 hrs/week): Core duties plus team development, volunteer scheduling, and greater involvement in service planning.
• Worship & Ministry Leadership (~22–35 hrs/week): Expanded duties plus a share of broader church responsibilities — for example, tech/production oversight, associate-pastor-style involvement in planning and pastoral care, or other ministry needs as gifting allows.

All tiers are paid at $25/hour. The exact hours and scope will be finalized with the successful candidate based on their availability, gifting, and interests.

Core Responsibilities (All Tiers)

• Plan and lead congregational worship for weekend services, selecting songs that fit the sermon series and serve the congregation.
• Lead from an instrument and/or vocally each week.
• Schedule and lead rehearsals with musicians and vocalists.
• Coordinate with the Lead Pastor on service flow, themes, and any special services (holidays, baptisms, etc.).
• Recruit, encourage, and shepherd volunteer musicians and vocalists.
• Maintain song charts, chord charts, and any licensing (CCLI) requirements.
• Maintain a healthy and strong relationship with Christ, the church, and the congregation.

Additional Responsibilities (Expanded / Leadership Tiers)

Depending on the hours and role selected, additional responsibilities may include:

• Overseeing or coordinating sound, video, and livestream production for services.
• Assisting with broader service planning alongside the Lead Pastor.
• Taking on associate-pastor-type duties such as discipleship, pastoral care check-ins, preaching, or leading a Life Group.
• Helping build out a growing worship and creative arts ministry as the church grows.

Qualifications

• A growing, genuine relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with Pursuit's mission and values (Presence, Unity, Reconciliation, Service, Urgency, Everyone).
• Demonstrated ability to lead worship musically (vocally and/or on an instrument) in a church or similar setting.
• Comfortable leading a team through rehearsals, scheduling, and giving/receiving feedback.
• Willingness to grow into additional responsibilities if pursuing the expanded or leadership tier.
• Prior worship leading experience preferred; formal music training is a plus but not required.
